Pupil cooking

School begins at 9.15 am and ends at 3.30pm.

The colours of the school uniform are dark green and grey. Polo shirts and sweatshirts bearing the school emblem are obtainable via school.

Transport to and from school is available for pupils by arrangement with the Local Authority Special Needs Department.

We have a home/school diary for each pupil which is sent home at least weekly.

Annual reviews are held in order to ensure that the recommendations of the Statement of 'Special Educational Needs' are still appropriate.

Lunches are provided in school and special dietary needs can be catered for on request. Children can bring a packed lunch from home, if preferred. Free school meals are available to children whose families are in receipt of benefits (please see the School Secretary).

Posting Letter

Sick children are sent home as soon as parents can be contacted. Children on a course of antibiotics may not attend school, unless there are exceptional circumstances, (please see the School Health Sister). All pupils with diarrhoea and vomiting must stay off school for 48 hours and cannot swim for 2 weeks.

Assemblies for the whole school are held twice a week. On the other days each class timetables a time for reflection.

There is an active Friends of Sherwood Park School group and a ‘Mums’ group meets regularly in the parents' room.

The school has adopted the National Literacy and Numeracy strategies and has adapted them to meet the needs of our pupils and students.

We use a system of signing called ‘Signalong’ to support speech and language. Courses are available for parents and professionals.

Teacher assessments are on-going and used to determine progress/achievements. Each year pupils are reassessed using the B-Squared assessment which records the progress the pupils have made in the pre-national curriculum (P-Scales) and the first National Curriculum levels.

Homework is available via consultation with the class teacher.
